Great holiday,hotel was amazing and there was some great DIY fishing to be had 15 mins walk SW from the hotel. Small Threadfin, Jacks, Palometa and Permit if your lucky. Caught one of these and did not have the camera with me but here are a few pics.

I'm off to PDC in 13 days.I'm staying in the Yucatan and its just a stroll south down the beach to the mark where you hooked into that Jack...Some gen on marks and lures etc wouldn't go a miss please...

Hi Jon,
Small lures, shallow divers that cast OK, no bigger than about 10cm. Metals for cutting through the wind as well if need be. The rock formation you wont miss, unless its been developed. Its the best feature there, usually plenty of small bait fish around. Wear decent shoes or boots, its rough and too sharp for anything else. Fish along the gutters and in front of the rocks at dawn. There are a few Cero and Cuda about as well, easy to get bitten off by these, fine knottable wire might help. Lots of small fish in the gutter which could be caught and used live if that's your thing. Im used squid as bait on a float but you could freeline for these as they are right at your feet.If you go down at night be mindful, never had any trouble but I thought dawn was safer and there were no swimmers. You should do OK, was pretty pleased with my efforts, will be back at some point.If you have a fly rod you could get some sport as well. A number of species available. Enjoy!
Cheers Martin...How far out are the prime targets...Jacks etc.This will help on rod selection.Did you try anywhere else or was that a productive enough mark.

Yes pretty much close range.The Jacks cam casting parallel to the shore along the gutters as did the Snooks I hooked and lost. I bought a Rovex 8ft Pro quad for a recent trip to Aruba, great rod for the money and that would do you well for there. Never tried anywhere else. Are on you on the WSF forum Jon ? There is a guy I can put you in touch with who now lives back over there. Let me know.

The 10ft will be fine, Jorge should keep you right, I would have a trip with him from the boat if I was going again. Just take a mix of lures, small hooks, some floats, some fine wire and walk the beach at the right time of day you should do ok for mixed fishing.
Thank for all the help...Lets see what happens...One thing...Floats will be staying at home...Ex match angler so Ive done enough of that...Lures all the way fella...If I have no look the bar is always open..lol
