BBC Alba- Sea Trout & Salmon on the Uists

Stewart put me on to this programme shown last Tuesday on BBC Alba. It brought back some great memories of the beaches, tidal pools and lochs I fished as a teenager through to my thirties. It’s been way too long and I really should get back up there soon and wet a line with my cousin Ian who also features in this programme. Have a look here if you’re interested in fly fishing for Sea Trout or Salmon in the outer Hebrides.

Fly only Scott, usually short lines, team of three flies with a nice big bob fly on like a Kate McLaren, Goats Toe or a Clan Chief. Some really nice Brownie fishing on the shallow machir lochs on the west side.

and there lies the problem 'fly only', pity going up there this year in the camper

Pollock fishing on the east coast can be good if you are up for a walk, could try lures for Bass on the west coast depending on when you visit. A couple of options there. Take your van to the Kyle of Tongue, Durness and Naver- you can use lures there and worth a visit. Enjoy your visit.

Yes Martin, I'll be trying the lures on the west side but might be a wee bit early for the Bass - last week May, first week June. Will also be going for the Pollock and of course if a wee troot decides to jump on the end of a Bombardo I cant help that ;_)

You might well be Neil but you never know. The best Pollack marks were a fair hoof as I recall,in addition if you have the heavy gear the open ground on the west into deep water should produce a few rays and dogs. As for the Bombarda, stranger things might well happen...

Yeah I thought the Pollock marks could be a fair walk have to see if the missus is up to it. I have all the GPS wild camping marks now in my SAT MAP so only time will tell. Think the camper will be a good purchase, I'll be doon Gallaway in August this year to ;-)
